Today went well. Dr. Assaley came in early and said that April looked well. She is still getting tired easily and having severe abdominal pain. Her labs are about the same. The nephrologist came in and said that he would see her in his office for an appointment at the end of the week.

I don't feel that April is ready to be released. She barely has the strength to walk the 15 feet to the bathroom. Kylee is doing well. She is off oxygen, the tube for feeding is out, she is now receiving formulas as well as breast milk, the IV is out, and she was off the CPAP machine for six hours today. That was the longest she has been off of the machine at once.

Uncle Matty, Meemaw Teresa and Peepaw Larry came to visit. Grammy Pam and Papa will also came and brought Ayden with them. It was really good to see her. I really miss her only getting to see her for a couple of hours a day.

Granny Do and Poppy and Papa Ruben and Grandma Violet also stopped by. Buddy Perry came by early this morning.

While April went up with Will and Pam Uncle Matty, Meemaw, Ayden, and I walked over to Mcdonald's for some chicken nuggets and apples. April was able to feed Kylee from a bottle while she held her during that visit. She said that she had some problems sucking. She didn't do very good with it at all. She will get the hang of it. Ayden had the same trouble. Kylee spit up and April got a little upset with one of the NICU nurse's comments. It wasn't Kylee's nurse, just one that happened to be walking by.

She came back to the room and I immediately could tell that she was in extreme pain. Her teeth were chattering, although she was not cold. She was wincing from pain and she was on the verge of tears. April is a very strong woman. I know she was in 10 kinds of pain. She was able to pump a little more milk and I took it up to Kylee's nurse and she said she would give it to her the next feeding. The day ended with April going to sleep quickly, although I don't think it is a peaceful sleep. She is flinching and talking. It may be a long night.

Saturday, May 30, 2009

April received 2 units of blood through the night. She seems to be feeling better. I am getting ready to go get some breakfast. She had french toast sticks and bacon.

Her creatnine was up to 3.4 from 2.9. What that means is that her kidneys are not working the way they are supposed to. Dr. Assaley called a nephrologist (kidney dr.) to come see her. He said it was to early to tell. Her system was still out of kilter from the pregnancy but he wanted to see her after she had healed up.

We have been up to the NICU to see Kylee twice so far and she is dong very well. They are trying to get her off the IV fluids. They have increased her feeding through the tube.

After our first visit April was able to come down and take a shower with my help. Then we went back to the NICU. We were only able to stay for about 30 minutes, April was getting really tired so I brought her back down and got her in the bed to rest. We are planning to go back up so April can hold her around 4:30. She may be able to feed her too.

Kylee has really thick, curly, dark hair. I joked and said that she has enough hair for pigtails. Her color is really good. The CPAP machine is on and off. It seems that she needs it more after she eats because she gets tired and stressed.

Ayden visited today with Will, Pam, and Nanny Eadris. It was good to see her. She and I went to the gift shop while the rest went up to visit and April could feed Kylee. We bought a bunny that came with markers and you could color it. We came back to the room and she sat in my lap and we took turns coloring it. I really had a great time. Ty and Jaime Harmon visited, it was good to see friends. I took them up to see Kylee and was a the proud poppa showing her off and telling all about her life up to this point.

April is doing really well. The doctor told her that he thought that The kidney problems she was having was due to having such a low blood pressure for such a long period. He thinks that it is just a matter of time until her blood work is back to normal.

Kylee is doing well too. She is still on and off of the CPAP machine. However, she is off of the IV fluids. If I haven't mentioned this before, she is beautiful. She has dark curly hair and eyes so blue they are violet. We will probably be here until Monday or Tuesday. I'm not sure how long Kylee will have to stay in the NICU. The nurse today said if she kept improving like she had probably a couple more days. We'll just have to wait and see. I'm not hurrying anything.

The first night as new parents...again!

5/29/09
Oh, what a night. April couldn't even keep water down. She became dehydrated, urine output dropped, and she developed clots. Once all of that was taken care of...about 4am...she was started on 2 units of blood...

10:10am April's color is finally coming back to her face. She doesn't look so dead. However, she does look like a pin-cushion. The techs from the lab even had to stick her finger and milk it into the tube to get a blood sample because they could not get a vein.

Kylee has been off the CPAP machine since about 2am. She has also been off of oxygen for sometime now. She is so beautiful. We called the NICU to check on her and the nurse said he was going to try to bottle feed her, so they may not have to put a feeding tube in. He said that she is doing really well. April can't go see her today until she finishes up the last unit of blood. I don't want to leave April and I know that Kylee is in very capable, caring hands.

April is doing much, much better. She received two units of blood and she has gotten a lot of her color back. Her speech has improved and she has enough energy to carry on a conversation.

I was happy that my brother, Matthew, made it back home from working in Denver. He came with gifts for Kylee and of course, Ayden. He seemed very excited not only to see Kylee, but also April. I think it is very nice the way he cares for her. We never had a sister, it was just the two of us, but if we did I'm sure he would treat her the way that he treats April.

At the moment her mom and sister are in the NICU with April. She was able to hold Kylee earlier and feed her. She wanted to go back for the 5:oo feeding and I let them go with her. Let them see the baby a little.

Several co-workers of April's came to visit this evening. I took them up while April was getting labs drawn to see Kylee. They are all very intelligent women and it was nice having their opinions once we were in her room on the NICU. They all seem so knowledgeable. They put me at ease a little more. Thank you ladies for visiting, it meant a lot to the both of us. Someday I'll make you dinner. That and she was once again off of the CPAP machine. But she did have a tube in her throat for feeding.

Kylee is back on the CPAP machine and April is getting the first of two more units of blood as of 11:15pm. The NICU nurse was going to try and bottle feed Kylee but it was too stressful on her so they had to go with the tube feeding. Maybe next time. Ayden went home with Grammy. She was really upset that April left her to go possibly feed Kylee.

Dr. Assaley stopped in and checked on April twice today. That means so much. He is an exceptional doctor. The entire staff that we have dealt with thus far has been fantastic.

Kylee Raine Copley entered this world at 1:18 pm today May 28, 2009. She weighed 6lbs and was 19 1/4 inches long. She was taken to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit because her lungs were not fully developed. She was given something to coat the airsacs in her lungs and by 9:00pm she was off of oxygen. Her respiration rate is still high but the professionals don't seem to be too worried about that. She will probably get a feeding tube tomorrow.

Judging by the chest x-ray the Dr. seems to think that she was at least 4 weeks premature. But all is going well. April is a little sick from the medication but just got to go to the NICU to see her baby at about 8:30. This made her feel a little better.
